Madison - Halloween Hootenanny

  • 1800 North Swan Boulevard Wauwatosa, WI, 53226 United States (map)

Get spooky with the Feminist Bird Club-Madison Chapter this Halloween at our third annual Halloween Hootenanny! 👻 Join us for an evening outdoor social at Hoyt Park on Friday, October 27th from 6:30 to 8:30pm. We'll have a fire going with treats and hot cocoa to share! Bird-themed costumes are highly encouraged! 🦃

For more information and to RSVP, please visit EventBrite

The first half of the evening will be a social gathering and the second half of the evening, we'll take a walk through the park (in the dark) as we listen for owls. Fall and winter are an especially good time to go owling, as these species begin their courtships behaviors in the fall rather than the spring and may be more vocal. But following safe and ethical owling practices is important to make sure these species aren't stressed. Bring all your owl- and owling-related questions, and join us for the Hoooooooot-enanny! 🦉

What to bring/wear:

🐦 a birdy costume (optional, but you know you wanna!)

🔦 a flashlight if you have one (we'll have some extras)

🧥 warm clothes

☕ your own mug/cup for hot cocoa (thanks for helping us reduce waste!)

Everyone is welcome and no birding experience is necessary!

RSVP is required so we can make sure we have enough cocoa and treats to share.

Directions and Parking: We'll meet at Hoyt Park at the main shelter. Hoyt's parking lot is paved with accessible parking spaces available. Please be aware that there are no street lights in the parking lot, so it will be dark. The shelter will be lit up and easily visible from the parking lot. There is a short walk (on grass) up a gentle hill to the shelter.

Accessibility information: The first part of the evening is a stationary social event at a shelter with picnic tables. A short uphill walk on grass is needed to reach the shelter, but if you have mobility issues there is a small driveway you can take to reach the shelter directly, parking right next to it. During the second half of the evening, we will be walking approximately 1 mile or less in the dark on packed dirt and grass trails. Uneven terrain on the path may be difficult to see in the dark. Leaders will have flashlights for safety and we encourage you to bring a flashlight if possible. The restrooms at this location are closed for the season and will not be open. Please contact us directly at feministbirdclubwi@gmail.com if you have questions about whether or not this event can accommodate your accessibility needs.

In the event of inclement weather we will cancel and notify you via email.
