Join Feminist Bird Club Western MA for a bird walk through the Montague Sandplains on Sunday, March 3 from 10am-noon.

Meet at the Plains Road parking area in Montague where the power lines cross the road (about half a mile down Plains Road from Turner’s Falls Road).

The Montague Sandplains are a unique habitat of oak, pitch and scrub pine, where you can reliably find red crossbills, pine siskins, brown creepers, golden-crowned kinglets, nuthatches, woodpeckers, goldfinches, and bluebirds.

Note that there are several different parking areas at the Montague Sandplains and your GPS may not automatically route you to our meeting area. Please make sure that you route to Plains Road.

The coordinates are: 42°34'05.7"N 72°32'08.8"W

Accessibility: Please wear a KN95 or N95 mask. We will have extra masks on hand. Part of the road leading up to the parking area is dirt, and there may be mud and potholes. Hunters sometimes use the area where we will be going. Hunting is not permitted on Sundays, but you may feel safest wearing bright colors.

We may walk up to a mile or more, depending on group preference, on ground that includes sand and mud.

Extra binoculars will be available.
