Join us for a stationary, wheelchair accessible outing watching the courtship displays of the American Woodcock.
This trip is designed for folks of any birding level or mobility.
Trip leaders: Jeremy Spool & Meghadeepa Maity
We’ll meet at 6:45pm at Lot 26 off of Governor’s Drive on the UMass Amherst campus (https://goo.gl/maps/DNUvugmgSL5V8dFR6) to hopefully see and hear some American Woodcock displaying over the brightly-lit parking lot at dusk.
We’ll be stationed near the back of the parking lot, which is surrounded by brush on three sides.
Participants are welcome to remain in their vehicles (ideally not idling so folks can hear the birds), or bring their own seating.
There will be snacks!
What to bring: Layers for a pre-Spring evening. A lawn chair, folding stool, or picnic blanket.
Optional: binoculars, beverages.Pandemic precautions: This event is open to vaccinated participants only. We will remain socially distant during this event.
Accessibility: This will be a stationary wheelchair accessible birding meet up and social, held in a well-lit, flat, paved parking lot. This lot is large and we’ll be at the back, which should be mostly empty and quiet since students will be on spring break.
There are no bathrooms or pre-existing seating.
Stop by for as long as you like!
Please account for additional travel time because of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. UMass Police will be notified of the event beforehand to avoid any conflicts.
