Madison, WI - April Woodcock Peent

  • UW-Madison Arboretum Visitor Center Parking Lot 1207 Seminole Highway Madison, WI, 53711 United States (map)

Peent! ... Peent! ... Peent! Mark your calendar! Woodcock season is just around the corner. Late March and early April is a great time to listen to the buzzy "peent" of the American woodcock as they perform their mating ritual at dusk.

We're going to return to the UW-Arboretum (prime woodcock territory!) in the evening where we'll look and listen for woodcocks on Curtis Prairie. Whether you are just getting started birding or have years of experience, all levels are welcome.

We ask that you RSVP as “Going” on our Facebook event page (send us an email if you aren't on Facebook) so we know how many people to expect. Once everyone arrives, we'll break into smaller groups. Please plan on dressing for the weather. We will be walking on a mix of packed dirt, gravel, and grass trails on flat terrain, but they may be wet or muddy depending on April's weather. We expect to walk 1 to 1.5 miles.

Cloth face coverings are required to attend the event.
