Join the Feminist Bird Club and NYC Plover Project (NYCPP) on an outing at Fort Tilden Beach on April 15th from 10am-12pm, led by Jen Kepler. We will be looking for some of our local plovers, observe their behaviors, and also observe other birds on the beach. We will also have the chance to discuss the role of NYCPP along the Gateway Beaches, how to become a volunteer, and how to share the shore as a beach-goer with our avian neighbors.
Please note the beach is soft sand and it can be difficult at times, even on foot. We will be traveling on fairly inaccessible landscape. Bathroom access is available at the Riis Beach Boardwalk, no bathrooms will be available during the outing.
Fort Tilden can be reached by car (parking is free at Riis at this time) and then traveling west along the boardwalk until its and at Beach 169th street. Fort Tilden can also be reached by taking the Q35 bus and walking south along Beach 169th street until you reach the boardwalk.
This outing will begin at Beach 169th street, where the boardwalk ends.
The beach can be extreme in its conditions, it can be still quite cold this time of year and windy, layers are highly advised! Sunscreen is highly suggested and/or hats.
Registration is required for this event. RSVP here on eventbrite.
