NYC - Birding at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge

  • 175-10 Cross Bay Boulevard New York, NY, 11693 United States (map)

Join the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge Rangers and Jen Kepler of the Feminist Bird Club NYC for an outing at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge.

Meet at 9:30 AM outside the visitors center and explore the West Pond together. We will be looking for early spring migrating birds, enjoy the wondrous weird ducks that remain, and hopefully be welcoming back the resident Ospreys. Bring your binoculars or borrow a pair. We will have two scopes on hand for our group to use in observing distant birds on the water.

Accessibility:
Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge is located at 175-10 Cross Bay Blvd, Queens, NY 11693. The location has ample parking available but can also be reached by subway via the A at Broad Channel (the train is still 3/4 mi away) or the Q21 bus or Q23 SBS.
The terrain is primarily flat, paths are unpaved and are mostly gravel which can be loose in some spaces. Benches are available fairly regularly along the West Pond. Bathrooms are available but will only be open starting at 10 AM when the visitor center opens.

Other Notes:
Please let us know if you need to borrow binoculars when you register for this outing. Registration is required as we have limited capacity. If you registered and can no longer attend the outing please cancel your registration so another person may have the opportunity to attend. Dress warmly and in layers, we will be adjacent to the bay which tends to make it cooler. If there is rain or hazardous weather we will meet on Sunday 3/24/24 as a rain date. We understand this location is not necessarily close to everyone, please do your best to be on time or comm
