Madison - Waterfowl ID at Lewis Park

After two canceled attempts, we're finally going to do it! We're going to look at winter waterfowl! Join us on Sunday, March 6th from 1pm to 3pm as we scope for migrating waterfowl from a viewing platform at Lewis Park, an accessible park along the edge of Lower Mud Lake.

The ice is open and spring waterfowl migrants are trickling in. Waterfowl are larger birds that tend to stay still, and have very bold and clear field marking, along with amazing behaviors. This is a great way to get started on learning bird identification if you are a beginner. We'll also see lots of eagles that like to hunt this area! 🦅

This is a stationary, accessible outing with lots of opportunities to get all your weird duck ID questions answered. The parking lot is only a couple of hundred feet to the viewing platform over smooth asphalt. We will mostly be standing on the wooden viewing platform, adjacent yard, and near picnic tables that overlook the lake. Dress in plenty of warm layers, and feel free to bring a hot cup of coffee or hot chocolate. There is a heated shelter you can warm up in, as well as a heated restroom on site.

RSVP is required - for more information and RSVP please visit the EventBrite.
