Join us for a fun-filled morning of birding and exploration! Grab your binoculars (or borrow some from us) and hop on a canoe as we paddle around Gowanus Bay in Brooklyn, NY. Led by Jennifer Kepler of the Feminist Bird Club in collaboration with the Gowanus Dredgers, this event offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature and learn about the diverse bird species in the area.

Whether you're a seasoned birder or a beginner, this adventure is for everyone! Don't miss out on this exciting opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and support the Feminist Bird Club's mission to promote inclusivity and conservation as well as that of the Gowanus Dredgers, connecting the community to the canal and promoting stewardship. See you there!

Tickets are required to join and every participant must sign a waiver. Participants under 18 require signature by a guardian. Each canoe will have up to 3 people. Solo paddlers are welcome, you will be paired with other members of the group based on experience and comfort in a canoe. We want this to be accessible to everyone, please contact us if you have a financial hardship.

Weather (wind, waves or evidence of storm) may cancel programming with one hour advance notice. Meet at the Gowanus Dredgers Canoe Club 19th St. Launch, 2 19 St, Brooklyn, (off of 3rd Ave.) NO REFUNDS, THERE IS NO RAIN DATE SCHEDULED.

Getting there:

The Gowanus Dredgers dock is located at the end of 19th St., off of 3rd Ave. past the Home Depot. You'll think you're going the wrong way - keep going until you get to the water, and you'll find us at the end of 19th. On street parking is available, but this is an industrial area, park at your own risk. If you're taking the train, the Prospect Ave. R is the closest station. 4th and 9th might be more useful (R, F & G). There are citibike docks on 3rd Ave at 17th st. and 23rd st. Personal bikes and bags can be locked in our canoe shed while we're out paddling.

What to bring:

Wear sunscreen and bring a bottle filled with water. Close-toed shoes are recommended, and wear clothing you don't mind potentially being splashed. Use a restroom before arrival, as we have limited facilities on-site. We will have some binoculars available to borrow, feel free to bring your own as well.
