We’ll get up to our usual birding shenanigans, but with a twist: we’ll specifically be looking and listening for female birds.
This kind of birding is slightly slower-paced, in that we’ll spend time watching for behaviors like nest-building in addition to all of the other ways we enjoy birds in their natural environment.
Never even thought about female birds before? No worries! Galbatross Project co-founder Martha will be on hand to help and to share knowledge about this particular birding practice.
Pelham Bay Park is New York City’s largest park and has a wide variety of habitats, so we’ll be on the lookout for warblers, thrushes, ducks, gulls, terns, jays and crows, a variety of raptors, herons and egrets, sparows, and more!
Bronx-based birder Alyssa will be our birding guide through the park.

Pelham Bay ParkAccessibility notes: Pelham Bay Park is quite large and varied. Some paths are paved, while others are compressed gravel, wood chips, or hard-packed dirt. Many are decently wide, but some are narrow or have uneven surfaces. The park has a number of public restrooms scattered throughout, and we should be near at least one at the beginning or end of our walk.
